[edit] Current focus area

Each quarter we bring the UnaMesa community together to demonstrate a new solution to a difficult social service challenge. The solution should create a new, improved experience for the social service provider and their clients.

[edit] Q3 2007 - Better health care education and information for caregivers and patients in rural areas

MORE Health Today outlines a system for delivering healthcare information to caregivers over television and radio stations, receiving feedback via SMS messages, and using village kiosks to obtain in-depth treatment information and protocols appropriate to the local region.

This activity is part of the overall goal to: transform health and health care in the United States and globally

Changemakers is running a challenge for disruptive innovations in healthcare. While we prefer to think of UnaMesa as working on complementary approaches to improving existing organizations, we definitely are enabling new ways of working that significantly improve upon the status quo. In entering this cooperative challenge we hope to amplify the voices of the many others working hard to improve health care.

Please contribute as you can by:

  • Improving the MORE Health Today article and filling in the missing pieces
  • Visiting the Health Care challenge page and adding your thoughts on how UnaMesa efforts can best complement the other entries in the challenge
  • Helping put together and review our proposal

[edit] Ongoing Projects

The UnaMesa association provides hosting facilities and other support for the ongoing development and maintenance of these projects.

[edit] Success metrics

UnaMesa projects provide tools that support the delivery of social services. Each project focuses on developing tools and techniques that address a well defined need which has been identified across multiple services.

All development work takes place in conjunction with social service providers. Prior to full-scale adoption by social service providers, UnaMesa projects must achieve and demonstrate:

  • simplicity of use (should require no training)
  • reliability of operation (something practitioners can depend upon)
  • local control (individuals choose where and how to share their information)
  • sustainability (stable source of long term support)
